What is Mindset?


A mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notions held by one or more people or groups of people.

In the book ‘Mindset’ by Dr. carol Dweck she divides the mindset into 2 sets of people:

Fixed or Growth. She says ‘The fixed mindset describes people who see their qualities as fixed traits that cannot change. With a fixed mindset, effort to improve a skill isn’t required: one is born with a certain amount of skill that can’t be improved upon.’ Those with fixed mindsets may avoid challenges, give up easily and ignore useful negative feedback.


Whereas a Growth Mindset is the total opposite. It is the mindset that allows you to take the life view thar everything can be earnt if you work hard enough for it, take on criticism, take on challenges and never give up even when the going gets tough.


Applying this to fitness I see so many people give up, avoid the challenge, avoid the sacrifices required to achieve what they truly want, I see people trying to find the easiest route to a healthy body so as to avoid the effort really required to achieve what they want.


Don’t allow yourself to be the Fixed Mindset person. Don’t allow your fear of change, fear of challenge and the fear of sacrificing things in your life to stop you from achieving your health and fitness goals.


Be the person with the Growth Mindset - challenge yourself to make a change with your food, to learn how to train properly, sacrifice the time to do it, the money to do it and every weekend of partying and drinking, instead focus on your goals and be balanced with everything. Give up one party and go to the next in a few weekends time, give up £30 of your monthly wage to go to a gym or spend more on a PT. It might just mean you have to sacrifice other aspects like a holiday or a new upgrade on your finance car or a big night out with friends or a spend up at blue water on clothes you don’t feel comfortable wearing anyway but do you really want to keep going on the same cycle?


FOCUS ON YOU AND YOU’RE BODY.

Make a change, challenge yourself and don’t give up. If you train with me I will push you, challenge you, teach you, and never allow you to say ‘I can’t’.
